Tough to be an Olympics fan in 2010…
February 17th, 2010 by admin | No Comments | Filed in UncategorizedWhy is it called “Olympic Coverage” when all we get to see is the “talking heads”, features on an estimated “5″ of the 200+ USA athletes (not to mention the 2600+ international athletes), and a lengthy commercial break between every athlete performance? Athlete profiles I can understand, and the stories can be compelling, but where did the sports go in the Olympic Games?
This is not coverage of the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games. To ask again, where are the sports, and where are the commentators that can speak to the intricacies and athletes of each sport with some level of intelligence? Wouldn’t it make more sense for the advertisers to invest in longer segments of SPORTS and COMPETITION coverage “brought to you by…” and uninterrupted with endless commercials. I think the viewers would take more kindly to their brands in the end – and NBC would shine as the broadcaster that brought commendable coverage of the Games, thanks to GE, Visa, Subway, AT&T, BMW, Audi and so on…
